18. Testing Vacuum Isolated Transformer Concept in Air
The test setup shown in
this picture is related to the coaxial transformer discused in Picture
17. The geometry shown matches the transformer and is configured to look
at the breakdown in air which has a breakdown value around 1/10th of vacuum. The setup demonstrated that the breakdown in air was greater
than 19,000 volts which is a good match to the design value of 50,000
volts with a design margin of 2 to 3.
