Supply Under Test
Battel Engineering, under contract to NASA Ames Research Center, has
developed an ultra-miniaturized high voltage power supply for use in
x-ray spectroscopy applications. The design can deliver 5 watts with 75%
efficiency. The vertical “striped pipe” on the test bench is a 35 kV
resistive load that is operated in combination with the vacuum tube
modulator in the foreground. The load uses special insulation and field
control methods to allow corona-free operation at full voltage in
open-air.
