122. 2000 Watt Tether Load
Simulation of the tether load over a wide range of parametric conditions
is essential to understanding the system characteristics. A simple
tether load was developed using strings of light bulbs configured to
operate in parallel at voltages up 1000 volts (9 bulbs in series). All
of the available refrigerator bulbs in Phoenix were procured from local
stores for the application creating a local shortage more than 3 weeks.
The lead technician in the foreground assisted with both engineering and
manufacture of the load.
